[so the beach they decided on was a bit of a ways away from the city. too far for a simple day trip, and far enough where an overnight stay in a beach town would feel a bit...underwhelming.,
and since they hadn't really done anything for Legosi's birthday, she figures a trip to the beach (her treat) is a way to make things special. it's something that couples do, right? plan weekend getaways to a beach town during the long summer days. something that the two of them have never actually done.
it's a bit of an old-fashioned town, so finding a cross-species inn in general had been a bit of a pain, but Haru had managed to find a place that didn't seem to ask any questions and came cheap if you rented a single room as a couple. and though the elderly snapping turtle husband and wife that owned the minshuku seemed surprised by the appearance of their guests, they at least didn't hesitate in showing them to their room and let the two of them be.
again, no questions asked. as long as two animals came in, and two animals checked out, they were fine with it.
it's been a long bus ride, so the moment Haru folds out the futon in their room, she flops facedown. their room is a bit dark despite it being mid-afternoon, and it's musty in the way that gives tell elderly reptiles own and care for this place. but hey, it's what Haru could afford on a college student's dime, and the fact that this is a "couple's trip" is actually what makes it all worth it. though that hasn't really sunk in yet.]
Think you'd be up for a soak at the onsen? [said after she flops onto her side to look at him, resting her cheek in her hand.] That bus was cramped, even for me.
[For a while, the possibility of their beach outing seemed like a far-off prospect. It had been decided upon during a time where that was the furthest from either of their minds, while Haru was busy trying to sober up and Legosi was occupied making sure she stayed hydrated. It was fun to talk about and plan though, and Legosi found himself daydreaming about it often during his shifts at work since that day. To that end, when it finally did arrive time for them to go together, it almost seemed too good to be true. A lot of things did these days, if he were honest. It seemed too...simple. Too easy. Maybe he'd just gotten too accustomed to even the simple things in his life being monumentally hard challenges. His only objective this week was to enjoy his time with his girlfriend, and damn it if he wasn't going to do exactly that.
As ever, Legosi makes every attempt to seem as friendly and personable to everyone he sees as they travel on the bus, make their way to the hotel, everything. He doesn't quite realize the especially fond smile he offers the turtle couple as they check them in, mainly because they remind him so much of his grandfather, being reptiles and all. Whether that was encouraging to them or even more confusing is anyone's guess, but then again a wolf checking in with a rabbit is as unusual as it gets. Though...perhaps slightly less so in this day and age, especially recently.
Legosi hadn't minded the long ride, finding enjoyment in the monotany of it. Just being with Haru at all is good enough for him. He would have probably been fine just sitting around doing nothing with her, so long as they were together. Eventually they make it though and Legosi is left scanning the room with a quietly curious eye as he sets his backpack down on the floor near the head of the futon. Both his tail and ears perk at what Haru suggests, and if the room were any smaller he would have stood straight up and hit his head on the ceiling. Fortunately, it seems that this hotel was built with relatively larger animals in mind (species such as giraffe notwithstanding), so he's spared that embarrassment. He still needs to mind the doorways, though.]

[It's not something he thinks or worries about too often since he knows Haru is better than that, but sometimes he can't help but hope that his inexperience isn't a turn-off...namely because even when it's easy to let his less conscious brain take over in intimate situations, it's also understandably dangerous to do that. So. You know! Things to think about, everything is a delicate balance, etc etc.
The way she pats his head causes his ears to flick a little, the speed of his wagging tail picking up considerably because there is nothing a canine likes more than being pet. He's not sure he could even describe why other than "just let someone pet your hair sometime and you'll understand".

He appreciates Haru thinking of things like this, because Legosi sure didn't...honestly it's only been recently that he's had to think about buying clothes for himself, more used to just wearing the same handful of outfits forever. He takes the yukata carefully in his hands, holding it up as he stands so he can get a full view of it unfolded.]

[as the yukata unfurls to its full length along Legosi's height, Haru's pleased to see that she did get his measurements right for the most part. it's hard to gauge the right size and shape for Legosi, with the dramatic ways his body seems to change each and every time she sees him, but she takes it as a sign she's getting a better idea of Legosi in getting to spend a bit more time with him.
she smiles, pleased, and she goes to take her robe as he continues to size his up. they match in colour, a dusky grey with traditional line patterns, but where the sash with Legosi's in a deep blue, hers is maroon. it's pretty straightforward His and Hers.]
Am I? [her ear flicks slightly, thoughtful, and she considers undressing now or waiting until she's in the showers to change. she'll...opt for the showers, and draping her yukata over her arms she turns to face him again.] I guess I just want to make sure this trip is a fun one! This is the first time we're going on a vacation as a couple after all...

[No one hopes more than Legosi that his body will have no more shocking changes to go through in the forseeable future. A lot of that was his own doing, at least, so maybe anything else can be attributed to just being a healthy young adult. Hopefully.

He's content to let her lead him along even if they did get lost, which is probably unwise but hey, what is a vacation for if not to just let yourself experience all the ups and downs that come with it?
He peers in shortly after Haru does, following her with shuffling feet as he tries to not let it show how relieved he is that it is empty. Not that he would be against others already being here, he just...would prefer to be with Haru alone.]
[LOOK she's just very excited about spending a weekend with her boyfriend ok!! so what if she gets a bit mixed up direction-wise. and, in contrast to Legosi's usual shuffling gait (reminiscent of an old man and...having finally met the grandfather who raised him, she kind of Gets this wolf's habits a bit better) Haru walks with her usual confident swagger. helped in knowing they'll have the showers and baths all to themselves for a bit.]

[said as she makes her way towards the cubbies near the seated shower area after sliding off her slippers and hanging up her yukata. she starts to strip down, still talking conversationally.] It'll take some getting used to, with the bathrooms and bathing area being co-ed. [and, starting up her shower, she runs her hand under the water to test it.]
Ah! At least the water heats up fast! Must be because the owners are reptiles. The showers in my university apartments always take forever to heat up.

[As if he'd ever mind. He'd never talk again if it meant even more time to listen to Haru, no matter what it is she's talking about. It might be obvious that he's moving slowly, not just out of habit, but also because he's tracking her movements and following what she's doing more or less. It's not like he's never used a shower or an onsen besides, but since it's co-ed he want to make sure he doesn't accidentally do something he shouldn't.
The fact this particular place is run by reptiles is a boon for Legosi. It makes everything seem more familiar, considering his close familial ties with them. He remembers quite well how things functioned similarly for his grandfather, and how the temperature in their home had to be constantly regulated to very specific degrees to keep things comfortable. Being fur-coated, Legosi tended to be able to put up with basically anything...it's easier to just cut your fur short or wear thick clothing if needed when you're warm blooded.
Legosi starts to strip as well once he's hung his yukata up nearby, reaching his hand out to feel the water along with her.]
That's how it always was at home...I was spoiled in that regard until I started living in school dorms.
[Ah, it's only just now hitting him how strange this feels. Not in a bad way, it's just...different. But if he didn't like the difference, he wouldn't be with Haru to begin with. and, with her back to him, hot water running and creating a cloud of steam in their general vicinity, she pauses for a moment as she sets the rest of her garments aside in her cubby. communal bathing is completely normal, of course; but there's something different in knowing that for now it's just the two of them. rinsing off before sharing a nice soak in a hot, natural spring water bath.
spending time with Legosi for long periods of time is rare enough, but she finds that it makes the mundane much more special.
grabbing the detachable showerhead by its cord, she lifts it up and over its hook (since it's too high up for her to reach otherwise and she's not about to ask Legosi to help), and as it swings up and off--
it sprays full force directly at Legosi, Haru scrambling with it to keep from spraying him further.]
Woops [said while still holding the showerhead, facedown towards her feet proper, water circling the drain.] I didn't get your clothes wet did I?
[It's a good thing that Legosi had reverted from moving slow and methodically to almost too quickly taking his clothes off once he realized he was lagging behind Haru, because it's about just as he's gotten his own clothes folded and put away that he's blasted by the shower-head. You'd think that it would have just hit his legs or chest with how short Haru is, but since it sort of just...swung from where it was to begin with, basically no part of him is safe. He holds up his hands in front of his face to shield himself from the tail end of the blast by the time Haru manages to get it back under control, leaving him standing there looking like...well. A wet dog.]

[That does prompt him to lean in close to her though, close enough that his nose is mere inches from Haru's, water dripping fom his fur. Surely he's not...actually mad, right? It was just an accident...right...?

Aftr a long pause, Legosi shakes himself vigorously. It's part canine reflex, but mostly it's an attempt to break the awkward tension that keeps building solely due to him being weird. he...he can't be mad, right? well, if he is she'll just offer to dry his clothes. and even with the sound of running water of the showerhead she's now awkwardly holding in her hands filling the silence, Haru can't help but feel awash with--]

[said the moment he starts shaking himself off, getting her wet and smelling like a large canine herself. it certainly breaks the tension, and she laughs, one hand reaching forward to grab him by the side of his face, pointedly keeping him close and down to her level as she brings the showerhead up to wash the top of his head. the wagging of his tail does not go unnoticed; it kicks up a slight breeze even through the steam of a hot shower.]

He takes it carefully so as to avoid another potential accident with it, remaining where he is crouched low to the floor. He gives a little thoughtful hum, maybe a delayed response to what she'd said a moment ago, before he starts by holding the showerhead at an angle just at the back of her head so he can work his way down.
Haru will find her head cradled in one of his massive paws before too long, taking special care to make sure he doesn't accidentally nick her with his claws. It's a bit difficult to keep the contact to just the pads of his fingers (toebeans? fingerbeans???) but he manages.]
[were he to accidentally scratch her with his claws, she wouldn't mind it. theirs is a relationship of walking a tightrope, and for her it's one between feeling comfort at his hands but also the dull but ever present spike of adrenaline whenever his claws move close to her face and neck.
in response to his delicate touch, cradling her head in one paw so large he could crush her if he wanted, water rhythmically falling across her fur in a pleasant and mindful manner, she closes her eyes happily (and in a way that conveys utmost trust), and her hand comes up to rest against his. she leans into his touch, knowing full well the way he's holding her is intentionally light and careful.
she's not careful. and, humming slightly, she smiles, opening her eyes to look at him once the water moves down and away from the top of her head.]
Mmhmm, it's just right. [it's less hot than the water she had sprayed him with, thanks to the time spent running, but it works in her favour. rabbit skin and fur is a lot more sensitive and thin compared to a wolf.] I wonder how warm the baths are going to be.

[Haru's always lived a life as if each day might be her last, a fact that isn't far off from reality. Legosi is much less used to living life on the edge, at least up until recently...he'd thrown himself into so many near-death situations that he honestly should be dead, yet here he is able to enjoy an onsen with his bunny girlfriend.
It's strange how things work out.
She's joking about becoming a stew while Legosi is wishing that didn't put an immediate picture of the very same in his mind's eye. It's gotten better with his bouts of weird training to suppress his desire to eat meat, but it's...different, with Haru. Never mind the fact that instincts aren't something you can fully, permanently erase. To do that would be to change who he is fundamentally, and that isn't something Legosi wants either. He wants a middle ground where he can still be himself while not being at a constant threat of someday eating his girlfriend.
He plans to have that never come to pass, and it starts with moments like these. Moments where he allows himself to smile slightly at her quip as opposed to thinking about it too seriously, letting the thought linger and pass as normally as anything else as he shifts the water around her to make sure she's doused properly.]
[It's a sign of just how far they've come, in terms of understanding each other and overcoming not only physical, but mental hurdles in their relationship, in how lightly Haru talks of morbid topics and how Legosi reacts in an understanding, non-reactionary way. They've come to a point where Haru doesn't have to try to get a rise out of him to grab his attention, instead speaking candidly and openly about whatever thought crosses her mind.]
I don't know...there are some animals out there who sell their bathwater as a business. I guarantee it.

Her fur isn't as thick, and though naturally she's more inclined to cooler temperatures at night, but she is really looking forward to a nice soak and getting their beach vacation started on the right foot. She enters the bath first; it's plenty deep for a large carnivore so she sticks to a side ledge made with smaller animals in mind.
Come on Legosi, it's fine to pant. That's what this place is for, anyway, to let it all out and relax.]

He notes the way he can see his fur being caught by the water beneath and thinks that he might benefit from another haircut in the near future...

[her ear flicks slightly, thoughtful, and she considers undressing now or waiting until she's in the showers to change. she'll...opt for the showers, and draping her yukata over her arms she turns to face him again.] I guess I just want to make sure this trip is a fun one! The way the yukata match is enough to really tug at Legosi's heart strings. He doesn't even notice the way he draws the fabric close to himself, holding it against his chest for a moment like he'll be able to calm the heavy beating of his heart, far too full of love for this little rabbit he's lucky enough to call his.]

[said as she makes her way towards the cubbies near the seated shower area after sliding off her slippers and hanging up her yukata. she starts to strip down, still talking conversationally.] It'll take some getting used to, with the bathrooms and bathing area being co-ed. [and, starting up her shower, she runs her hand under the water to test it.]
Ah! At least the water heats up fast! Must be because the owners are reptiles. The showers in my university apartments always take forever to heat up.

The fact this particular place is run by reptiles is a boon for Legosi. It makes everything seem more familiar, considering his close familial ties with them. He remembers quite well how things functioned similarly for his grandfather, and how the temperature in their home had to be constantly regulated to very specific degrees to keep things comfortable. Being fur-coated, Legosi tended to be able to put up with basically anything...it's easier to just cut your fur short or wear thick clothing if needed when you're warm blooded.
Legosi starts to strip as well once he's hung his yukata up nearby, reaching his hand out to feel the water along with her.]
That's how it always was at home...I was spoiled in that regard until I started living in school dorms.
[Ah, it's only just now hitting him how strange this feels. Not in a bad way, it's just...different. But if he didn't like the difference, he wouldn't be with Haru to begin with. So when he finds himself thoughtlessly reaching a hand out- as if he's going to help her put her own clothes into the cubbies- he pulls back and jams his into one of the ones in front of his nose, realizes it's not going to fit unless he folds it better, and pulls it back out to do that...]

and, with her back to him, hot water running and creating a cloud of steam in their general vicinity, she pauses for a moment as she sets the rest of her garments aside in her cubby. communal bathing is completely normal, of course; but there's something different in knowing that for now it's just the two of them. rinsing off before sharing a nice soak in a hot, natural spring water bath.
spending time with Legosi for long periods of time is rare enough, but she finds that it makes the mundane much more special.
grabbing the detachable showerhead by its cord, she lifts it up and over its hook (since it's too high up for her to reach otherwise and she's not about to ask Legosi to help), and as it swings up and off--
it sprays full force directly at Legosi, Haru scrambling with it to keep from spraying him further.]

Now they're both wet, you're welcome. He just hopes Haru finds it humorous; his tail is wagging again despite being just as soaked as the rest of him is, so there's that.]

he...he can't be mad, right? well, if he is she'll just offer to dry his clothes. and even with the sound of running water of the showerhead she's now awkwardly holding in her hands filling the silence, Haru can't help but feel awash with--]

[said the moment he starts shaking himself off, getting her wet and smelling like a large canine herself. it certainly breaks the tension, and she laughs, one hand reaching forward to grab him by the side of his face, pointedly keeping him close and down to her level as she brings the showerhead up to wash the top of his head. the wagging of his tail does not go unnoticed; it kicks up a slight breeze even through the steam of a hot shower.]

[said while scrubbing her hand through his fur, rinsing him down the best to her short-of-stature ability, and taking care not to get water in his eyes or ears (or...ear and a half) as she maneuvers the water around. clearly intent on rinsing him down herself, as further punishment for being a giant weirdo.]

[He sounds apologetic, but only just. You're the one who blasted him in the face, Haru! Even if he knows it wasn't at all on purpose. It seems that this was worth it anyway for the way she's rubbing his head like that, causing him to tilt his head back to lean into every scratch and brush of her fingers without even fully realizing it.

But now it's his turn. He'd started to zone out a little with Haru's fingers threading through his fur, and he only just snaps out of it as she pulls the showerhead away and hands it over to him. He takes it carefully so as to avoid another potential accident with it, remaining where he is crouched low to the floor. He gives a little thoughtful hum, maybe a delayed response to what she'd said a moment ago, before he starts by holding the showerhead at an angle just at the back of her head so he can work his way down.
Haru will find her head cradled in one of his massive paws before too long, taking special care to make sure he doesn't accidentally nick her with his claws. It's a bit difficult to keep the contact to just the pads of his fingers (toebeans? fingerbeans???) but he manages.]

in response to his delicate touch, cradling her head in one paw so large he could crush her if he wanted, water rhythmically falling across her fur in a pleasant and mindful manner, she closes her eyes happily (and in a way that conveys utmost trust), and her hand comes up to rest against his. she leans into his touch, knowing full well the way he's holding her is intentionally light and careful.
she's not careful. and, humming slightly, she smiles, opening her eyes to look at him once the water moves down and away from the top of her head.]
Mmhmm, it's just right. [it's less hot than the water she had sprayed him with, thanks to the time spent running, but it works in her favour. rabbit skin and fur is a lot more sensitive and thin compared to a wolf.] I wonder how warm the baths are going to be.

It's strange how things work out.
She's joking about becoming a stew while Legosi is wishing that didn't put an immediate picture of the very same in his mind's eye. It's gotten better with his bouts of weird training to suppress his desire to eat meat, but it's...different, with Haru. Never mind the fact that instincts aren't something you can fully, permanently erase. To do that would be to change who he is fundamentally, and that isn't something Legosi wants either. He wants a middle ground where he can still be himself while not being at a constant threat of someday eating his girlfriend.
He plans to have that never come to pass, and it starts with moments like these. Moments where he allows himself to smile slightly at her quip as opposed to thinking about it too seriously, letting the thought linger and pass as normally as anything else as he shifts the water around her to make sure she's doused properly.]

That...doesn't surprise me.
[It's honestly probably a topic that came up in his dorm room at least once while he was still there, what with the pack's tendency to enjoy talking about girls and their favorite idols and whatnot. Legosi tried not to think about it too hard, himself.
Haru's laugh makes even the topic of e-girl bathwater a worthwhile one though, his ears laying back against his head as he replaces the showerhead where it was before once he's through. He'll let Haru lead the way like before, though it seems like the space is still empty for the time being. The steam coming from the water's surface indicates it's plenty warm, possibly uncomfortably so for some who aren't as able to take the heat. For animals like Legosi, the thickness of the air gives him the urge to pant...but he holds it in for the time being because he's not WEAK-]

For Haru, the heat and steam coming from the hot bath isn't as oppressive as it must be for Legosi. Her fur isn't as thick, and though naturally she's more inclined to cooler temperatures at night, but she is really looking forward to a nice soak and getting their beach vacation started on the right foot. She enters the bath first; it's plenty deep for a large carnivore so she sticks to a side ledge made with smaller animals in mind.
Come on Legosi, it's fine to pant. That's what this place is for, anyway, to let it all out and relax.]
